THE WEATHER IS COLD, BUT THE MOVIES ARE HOT

New York, Jan, 12 - As the depths of winter sets in and awards season beckons, January 2010 is the perfect time to cozy up to the hearth (or the HD set) and explore the world of cable television's Movies on Demand (MOD) without ever leaving the house. According to MOD distributor iN DEMAND, the January MOD schedule presents a dizzying selection of first-run movies premiering on demand including 2010 Golden Globe® nominees, critical hits, sleepers and surprise hits, and films that lit up the social media's buzz machine.

Now playing or soon-to-premiere titles include "Inglourious Basterds," "G-force," "District 9," "Paranormal Activity," "Public Enemies," "The Final Destination," "The Hurt Locker," "Surrogates," "Fame," "Gamer" and many more. They are all are available effortlessly, with just the click of a remote, eliminating any need for pre-planning. Many of the month's new films are available on cable same day as their DVD release.

Accessing these films via MOD on cable is the ultimate in convenience and immediate gratification. They can be viewed at a moment's notice via cable remote, with full DVD functionality and availability in both Standard and High Definition.

There is something for every member of the family as every genre is represented in January. Below are some of the titles premiering in January, listed in order of their premiere date on MOD. Titles premiering the same day as DVDs are noted as "D&D" below:

With its ease-of-use and broad availability, Video On Demand (VOD) in general is on a steep growth curve. According to Rentrak, in the first six months of 2009 there were more than 3.35 billion U.S. On Demand transactions* on cable and other platforms in the U.S., including free, subscription and transactional offerings. That compares to 3.8 billion VOD transactions in all of 2008 (Rentrak).

Leichtman Research Group projects that 44.8 million cable and telco video households will have access to Video On Demand at year-end 2009, up from 40.2 million at year-end 2008 (source: LRG's On-Demand TV 2009: A nationwide study of VOD and DVRs).
