Press Release #29 (6/1/09)

Latest Rounds Featuring the Leading South American National Teams Are Available To Cable TV Customers Live on Cable Pay-Per-View

New York, June 1, 2009 - As the competition heats up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, major cable TV operators around the country will present the latest round of the South American World Cup Qualifiers on June 6, 7 and 10, 2009 to their soccer-enthusiast customers, live, on cable Pay-Per-View.

The cable TV systems began showing the live telecasts of the qualifying rounds last year, and will continue to offer the increasingly important key matches, live on pay-per-view, through the final decisive rounds this fall. Cable Pay-Per-View gives customers the flexibility to choose the matches that they want to see, on television, in the comfort of their homes, for just $29.99 per match.

The South American World Cup Qualifying matches are among the most important matches in the world because they feature top-ranked national teams and their internationally-acclaimed players including Sylvio Mendes Campos, Daniel Alves da Silva, and the super-stars like Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and many more! The qualifiers are a series of rounds played over a period of 25 months, concluding later this year. During these rounds, each of the 10 South American national teams plays the other in a "home and home" format. The outcome determines which four South American national teams will earn an automatic place to represent the South America Confederation (CONMEBOL) at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Each match is critical. For example, Brazil is the reigning Copa America champion, yet they are currently ranked as #2 in the Qualifier rankings. In an unusual turn of events, super-star team Argentina lags behind upstart Chile, while Ecuador and Colombia are in a hotly-contested competition to see which of them displaces Uruguay to take 4th place.
The latest rounds will be played on Saturday, June 6, Sunday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

Below is a list of the live matches that will be telecast on pay-per-view in the next round*. All start times listed are Eastern Time. Future live telecasts will be announced prior to each new round.
